Nick has focused on practical results: protecting local health care, supporting the right housing our community needs, directing growth responsibly, strengthening the local economy, renewing infrastructure, improving neighbourhood safety and keeping Fort Erie financially resilient. That work has helped move major priorities from ideas into action - from the Reimagining Douglas Memorial plan and the Lions Douglas Heights expansion to new manufacturing investment, road and sewer renewal, traffic calming and provincial infrastructure funding.
Progress on this scale is never the work of one person. It depends on residents, community organizations, Town staff, Council and partners at other levels of government working together. Nick’s role has been to bring ideas forward, build support and keep important priorities moving so Fort Erie can remain strong, resilient and increasingly able to shape its own future.

Economic Resiliency
A resilient Fort Erie needs good jobs, a diverse tax base and room for local businesses to grow. Siltech’s new 200,000-square-foot facility represents a $100-million private-sector investment, while De Havilland’s acquisition of Fleet Canada creates new opportunities for aerospace manufacturing and skilled employment. Fort Erie has also recorded more than 200 net new businesses since 2020. Expanding employment lands, combined with our highway access and international border, can help attract more investment, broaden the tax base and create more opportunity close to home.
More jobs mean more prosperity for our community that gives our kids a reason to stay in town and raise families of their own.

Douglas Memorial is Non-Negotiable!
Nick supports a permanent 24/7 Urgent Care Centre, backed by a community health hub offering diagnostic imaging, primary and allied care, clinics, transitional and palliative care, and health-care education. Fort Erie has taken that practical, Town-led plan directly to provincial decision-makers. Before any local taxpayer money is transferred to Niagara Health - or the community is asked to buy back a hospital it already helped build - Nick wants an iron-clad agreement securing the services, hours, funding, duration and enforcement needed to protect Douglas Memorial for the long term.
Make no mistake - if Niagara Health expects Fort Erie residents to pay, we demand to receive what we are owed in return!

Communities Matter
Fort Erie’s new Official Plan directs growth toward areas where roads, services, businesses and community facilities already exist or can be expanded efficiently. That means more housing choice while making better use of existing infrastructure. The goal is balance: welcome new homes and investment without sacrificing established neighbourhoods, local character, natural areas or built heritage. Fort Erie should - and will - grow stronger without losing what makes it Fort Erie!
Well-planned growth also broadens the tax base, helping support more stable property tax and water rates over time. It strengthens the case for new businesses, health care, retail and other services while supporting local jobs and continued investment in the infrastructure residents depend on.

Housing We Need
Lions Douglas Heights shows how Town Hall can help turn a good community project into housing. The new nine-storey building will provide 62 affordable apartments for seniors. Nick brought forward the successful motion to waive Town planning fees, keeping the project moving. It is the first purpose-built affordable seniors’ housing development since the original Douglas Heights opened in 1991.
Council also adopted Fort Erie’s Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan, giving us new tools to encourage affordable and attainable housing across the community. Together, initiatives like these and practical support for projects such as Douglas Heights can help expand housing choices while making it easier for good projects to move from plans to construction.

Reliable Infrastructure
Reliable roads, water, wastewater and stormwater systems are the foundation of a strong community. Sewer relining helps keep groundwater and stormwater out of the wastewater system, reducing the risk of backups and helping keep basements dry. Regular road inspections help time repairs before costlier reconstruction is needed. While some infrastructure in Fort Erie is owned by Niagara Region, Town-owned assets are backed by long-term planning, dedicated funding and reserves - helping avoid larger bills and sudden tax pressure later.
Road infrastructure must also be safe. Traffic calming was a commitment Nick made when first running in 2018. He raised it with staff and supported the motions establishing Fort Erie’s comprehensive program. Concession Road in Ward 2 was the pilot and the first road in town to receive traffic-calming measures.

Fiscal Strength
Affordability matters. Every tax dollar comes from a household or business budget. About 42 cents of each residential property-tax dollar funds Town programs and services; the rest is collected for Niagara Region and the school boards. Taxpayers deserve full value from every dollar Council controls. Independent comparisons of tax bills for similar homes place Fort Erie favourably across Niagara, but that is no excuse for complacency. Council must still make tough choices about what to fund, change or cut.
Healthy reserves, a well-funded Asset Management Plan and low debt reflect disciplined management. They allow us to maintain essential infrastructure, plan for future needs and protect the next generation from avoidable costs. Responsible budgeting means confronting challenges today - not kicking the can down the road for a press release or the latest hot take.
